The Neon Trend is Hot in Womens Fashion for Summer 2013
Posted on 28 June 2013
It cannot have escaped your notice this year that one of the most popular womens clothing trends this summer has been the introduction of neon. Splashes of bright coloured neon can be seen being worn by the young fashion crowd in most of the bars and clubs across the UK and it’s fair to say we love it!
Initially featuring in many of the high end catwalk shows for spring/ summer 2013, the neon trend has been picked up by stores and brands across the high street and beyond. The likes of Topshop, Zara and Vero Moda were some of the first to include this brightest of summer trends into their collections in-store and online.
The neon trend is a nod 1980’s fashion where bright fluorescent yellows, pinks, oranges and greens were common place and used in all different types of clothing categories including t-shirts, shorts, tracksuits, leg-warmers and even scrunchies. It’s fair to say that the 2013 neon trend has in most cases been included with much more subtlety and style than was apparent in the more garish fashion of the 1980’s. Many stores and clothing brands have just used splashes or blocks of neon in their garments giving much more of a balance to the look rather than overpowering the eye with all over use. We are definitely fans of the more understated look with this trend. To give you an example, we love this Vero Moda Jina Colour Block 3/4 Sleeve Top Light Grey/Neon Coral with coral orange colour block panel.
Having said that there is an exception to every rule and in this case we definitely make an exception when it comes to footwear and accessories and the neon trend. Matching the more subtle neutral colours of either your separates, a well chosen dress or your favourite jeans with some killer neon heels is a look we love and is perfectfor summer!
The same could be said for matching a more subtle outfit with a neon clutch, satchel or tote bag to add that ‘pop’ to your look.We love this neon yellow Michael Kors handbag paired with the simple black and white stripes of the top and the stylish and summery white trousers.
For those of a more humble persuasion but who still want to embrace the neon trend we would recommend that another great way of incorporating a bright neon into your look is to go for a neon nail varnish. We especially love the orange, pink and yellow featured here.
