Diadora’s iconic story began in 1948 when Italian athletic footwear and apparel manufacturer Marcello Danieli first began working in the trade as a young boy. During the First World War, many divisions of the Italian army were stationed close to where Danieli resided. Armed with a needle, thread, ambition, determination, and helped by his wife, they managed to successfully launch his first product, mountain climbing boots (for the soldiers to wear when on the front line).
Danieli was recommended the company name "Diadora" from a friend, which in Greek translates to "by means of gifts." He fast became the most sought-after craftsman in the area, bringing to the ancient art, a passion and great desire for the knowledge, creativity and invention. The Diadora story is largely a part of Italian history as it is one of the only Italian athletic footwear and apparel manufacturers to still produce their products in Italy.
Diadora have always had high-profile football players under their sponsorship and examples include Roy Keane, Giuseppe Signori, George Weah, Roberto Baggio, Antonio Cassano, and Francesco Totti. They believe the athletes that wear their shoes are the champions of yesterday, today and tomorrow, just like the brand itself. The company have also continued to manufacture football kits for all the top teams in Europe’s top leagues including Italy giants Juventus and AC Milan.
One of the silhouettes which nailed the transition from actual athletics to lifestyle legendary status is the Diadora N9000 trainer. The original version of this shoe was launched in 1990 and did what the sports champions expected it to do: uniting stability and proper cushioning. They partnered with Patta, an Amsterdam-based boutique, and released three versions of the legendary N9000. This turned out to be huge streetwear success helping the brand gain relevance again, and appeal to a younger audience.
Over the years, Diadora have partnered up with some of the hottest brands out there! They have collaborated with BAIT x Dreamworks to produce in-demand sold out collections such as; Felix the Cat, Where’s Wally and Shrek. They have also teamed up with Hanon to produce limited colourways of the V7000.
This season Diadora Heritage stands a cut above the rest with super innovative yet artisan-spirited products. Backed by its know-how, the brands Heritage reinvents its catalogue by introducing ultra-new silhouettes and avant-garde technologies taken from the performance world of the brand’s catalogue.
