Kickers are the comeback kids of the footwear world. The first model was developed in France in 1970 by French fashion visionary Daniel Raufast, who was the owner of a children's shoe company. Inspired by the revolutionary spirit of Parisian students and a poster advertising the musical Hair, the barefooted youngsters wearing jeans took his interest. Raufast went on to develop a new shoe concept which he believed to be more compatible with the blue-jean generation and produced a shoe specifically to be worn with denim.
Together with Jacques Chevallereau they created the first ‘jean boot’. Crafted from soft nubuck the contrast top stitching, panels and appliqués all heavily referenced denim. The branded heel logo and fleurette quickly become synonymous with the Kickers brand, and remains the classic emblem to this day. After a successful launch in France, Kickers soon began to take over the rest of the world, selling in over 70 countries with their comfortable casual shoes for all ages.
The Kick Hi, which became Kickers’ most popular design and style icon, launched in 1975 as the first UK store opened in London on King’s Road. It was in the late 1980s and early 1990s when the Kick His were heralded by icons on the Manchester music scene. The iconic shoe then became popular in the rave scene, first with acid house and then later with trance music. Many fans of the shoe came from diverse and contemporary musical backgrounds including UK garage, RnB, pop and hip hop. The infamous shoe is still going strong today.
With their youthful rebellious spirit, Kickers have managed to stay relevant over the past 40 years. To be so renowned and consistent, the brand has ensured that there’s more to their shoes than meets the eye.
The brands profile has always caught mainstream attention over the years as various pieces from their collections have been spotted on many celebrities including; Noel Gallagher, Mike Skinner, Emma Watson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Peter Andre’s children.
Now known for being the most popular school shoe in the playground, they have an infamous reputation for being durable, practical and stylish. They’re the must-have for every child’s first week back to school, and an essential for the music lovers who want to emulate their icons. Their hardcore scuff resistance, flexible shock absorbing low density outsole, and stain fighting StayKlean coating has caused Kickers to be on every parent’s school uniform essentials list.
A brand that’s here to stay and always moving forward, Kickers certainly look set to have an even brighter future. So let’s take a sneak peek at our Kickers back to school range arriving at UKK this Summer!
