In 1913 two brothers went on a mission to chase the American dream and it didn’t take them long to achieve what they had set out to do! This truly American brand began with the door to door selling of Raincoats made in a basement in Lower Eastside Manhattan. When the journey began there was little idea that they were soon going to make an impact on the fashion scene, that would continue over 100 years later. In 1928, the rise of the motorcycle was at the forefront of attention across America and Irving Schott was drawn in by the perfect opportunity.
Schott had already begun to impact fashion, becoming the first brand to put a zipper on a jacket. By taking this zipped jacket design, high quality leather and some name inspiration from his favourite cigar and the Perfecto® was born! This first ever leather motor bike jacket soon had as much attention as the motorcycle itself, opening a new wave of trill, adventure and style edge for the upcoming generation of bikers across the US.
When WWII hit in 1939, Schott’s journey took on a new meaning. The brand was commissioned by the US to produce a leather Bomber Jacket for the uniform of the Air Force in the sky and a wool Peacoat for those down on the water. These designs continued to serve the US Air Force for the duration of the war and for another 55 years after.
Schott’s hand-crafted signature leather jacket continued to make a statement across American and slowly worldwide. Worn by Marlon Brando in the classic film ‘The Wild Ones’ before becoming the uniform for Punk Rock artists, including Blondie and The Sex Pistols, the Perfecto® has always taken centre stage for the brand. With a strong sense of pride behind everything Schott do, the iconic, timeless styles they offer have become a celebration of American culture.
