The original pioneers of innovation are back, bringing a fresh offering of heritage style to modern streetwear. Founded in 1933, Lacoste was created by French tennis legend René Lacoste who revolutionised the everyday wardrobe. Due to it’s impracticalness, he cut off the sleeves of a long-sleeved shirt for better movement when playing tennis. From that the polo was born, and the brands core style was defined.
Recognised worldwide - the iconic logo came from a nickname “Alligator” the American press gave René. Although the story originated from a bet he made, he liked the fact the public conveyed it as tenacity. As a result, had his friend draw him a ‘crocodile’, which was then embroidered on to his clothing.
Over the years, Lacoste have partnered up with some of the hottest brands out there! Back in 2013, they collaborated with luxury brands Goyard and Hermès, reinforcing René’s vision of elegance. The brand is also known for its strong presence in the streetwear scene. They’ve collaborated with the likes of Supreme and Bape to produce in-demand sold out collections. As such they have quickly become one of the must-have brands of this year.
Defined by the iconic signature petit piqué, René designed a revolutionary knit which was the emblematic fabric of the Lacoste polo. Today, the range is extensive as ever, but the core pieces of the brand are polo shirts, footwear, knitwear and tracksuits.
One of our favourite Lacoste pieces for Spring Summer 18 are the Fraisier Gold Croc Sliders. Slip-on elegant design, blending a pop of the gold iconic crocodile emblem with simplistic colours. Utilising their sporting background, they have fused functionality with style to create these contemporary shoes, you cannot fail to be noticed – on the beach or the street.
